I’ve noticed that wireless Android Auto, while convenient, tends to drain my phone battery when it auto-connects in the background. So, I found a way to stop it from auto-connecting on my 2023 Bolt with a Samsung S21FE, and it’s working great. Hopefully, this works for others too!

Here’s the quick fix:
  1. Go into your phone's Wi-Fi settings and find the Bolt’s Wi-Fi connection.
  2. Disable auto-connect for that network.
  3. In the advanced Wi-Fi settings, find “Android Auto” under “Wi-Fi on/off history” and disable it from controlling Wi-Fi.

Android Auto won’t auto-connect when you get in the car, and you’ll see the icon is greyed out. When you want to use it, just tap the Android Auto icon in the car, select your phone, and you’re good to go, no more battery drain! 💪
