My dealership tells me it's time for a coolant flush. Apparently, it's recommended every 5 years; I've had my 2019 for nearly 6 now. Anyone else done this? it's $500.

Looks to be pretty daunting job? Does one really need a vacuum device? My dealership tells me it's time for a coolant flush. Apparently, it's recommended every 5 years; I've had my 2019 for nearly 6 now. Anyone else done this? it's $500.
I wouldn't trust them with an EV. I just replaced my hubs and axles myself at 40k. I bought the synthetic fluid for a gearbox fluid change. Doesn't look hard once you get the belly pan off. Two drain plugs, a fill plug and a "Check fluid level" plug. There is a video on Weber Auto on the Bolt "transmission:" that points out the plugs and instructions for drain and filliing. As far as coolant goes, it's after the tranny fluid. It can't be that hard.has any tried one of those drive-thru oil/coolant change joint ?
yes, it's usually not "hard"; for me it's the hurdle to get started. The coolant system also needs to be burped off air bubble as well.I wouldn't trust them with an EV. Does it take a vacuum tool to complete the refill properly?yes, it's usually not "hard"; for me it's the hurdle to get started. The coolant system also needs to be burped off air bubble as well.
yes if all the coolant is drained and replaced, there are 3-coolant loops. The reason for coolant replacement is due to the degradation of coolant's viscosity and lubrication property. My plan is to "dilute" the old coolant with new coolant, by siphoning out the old coolant from the 3x reservoirs and fill up with new coolant, roughly 3-4 times within a few days.Does it take a vacuum tool to complete the refill properly?
Yesss.......that is just what I did with my rack and pinion steering fluid in my Honda CRV.yes if all the coolant is drained and replaced, there are 3-coolant loops.
