In the past week, at varying temps down to -4F, I have been seeing our 2017 EV shut down the Level 1 charging process, showing a red light on the original charger instead of the green light when it does so. It works fine for maybe a half-hour, then just shuts down the charge. When I leave the EVSE plugged into the car and just unplug and replug the AC cord it goes green for maybe 5 seconds and I hear a relay in the car click on. The the EVSE goes to red light and I hear that same car relay click off. If I unplug the car end and replug the AC end of the EVSE it will go green light, indicating the AC supply is OK. But sometimes, even if I just push the locking tab on the J1772, the EVSE will go red again. Or sometimes I plug it into the car and it will stay green and charge for maybe 15 seconds, then go red again. This happens at both 8 and 12 amp settings. Since the problem seems intermittent and unpredictable, is it time for a new EVSE? And if so, what do folks recommend?
