According to some media outlets, they are saying expect a late 2017 introduction as a 2018 model.

However, I thought from GM's presentation it was a late 2016, early 2017 introduction?

Here's what someone said in comments on a news site:
I don’t believe a 2016 introduction is possible. The gestation period for a new model is 4-6 years, and this is a completely new vehicle so more toward the latter. This was also a very early concept car, the entire interior needs to be redone. The plastic rear center console even broke off as a photographer leaned in to take pictures. They haven’t even officially committed to making it, although it seemed the GM people were enthusiastic about its chances to go to production.

Or mid-2016 as they say in this video.

"next year, year and a half" gets you to mid-2016.

Can't see the video from work, but if it is the MotorTrend video then they're talking about when they'll unveil the production-ready Bolt EV, not when they will launch the Bolt and start sales.

Remember how the Volt was unveiled in Sept 08 2 years after the concept in January 07? Then it took 2 more years until release in December 2010... we're in for a long-haul wait I'm afraid.

At least it will be nationwide when it gets here!

I wonder what Chevy will do about nationwide quick charging? That's really what separates Tesla from these other competitors... especially since GM has shown us a 200 mile, $30K EV concept with the Bolt, while Tesla Model 3 is still all just heresay - nothing even in concept form that anyone has seen yet.

Next year to year and a half for production would be awsome...

I think the car chargers will be there in a couple of years to rival Teslas supercharger as Ford, GM, VW, BMW, Mercedes all use the same standard...

BMW Building Charging Network To Rival Tesla

It appears that Ford, alone among the participants, is now pushing to expand the power-delivery capability of future Combined Charging System (CCS) DC quick chargers to as much as 150 kilowatts. An engineer at another automaker who's involved with the technical committee working on that standard told Green Car Reports that other participants didn't understand why Ford insisted on such high power. Today's Tesla Supercharger fast-charging stations deliver a maximum of 120 to 135 kW, with plans rumored to boost that further to 150 kW.

Teslas Model III may roll out on time or late but it will roll out and it will most likely be awsome...
I for one wont bet against Elon Musk...

+2 for not betting against Elon.

That's not to say the Chevy Bolt can't be awesome too, especially if they come in at a lower pricepoint, and there's a quick charge network available as well!

It was 3 years 11 months from when the Volt was shown as a concept car until it was on sale. So I'm looking for December 2018

Apparently GM has already counter-remarked...

"Bolt EV Concept is just that – a concept. We’re currently evaluating the vehicle program, but do not have any production announcements to make at this time."

I like to think that it's because they're upset it leaked before they could make the official announcement at the Chicago Auto Show :)

"General Motors Co. is expected to announce next week at the Chicago Auto Show that it will build the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt at its Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township, according to a source familiar with the automaker’s plans."

Here are the important bits (via Detroit News):

General Motors Co. is expected to announce next week at the Chicago Auto Show that it will build the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt at its Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township
In November, GM said it would invest $160 million into Orion for tooling and equipment for a future vehicle, but GM didn’t name it.
LMC Automotive is forecasting the Bolt would go into production at Orion in late 2016 and would go on sale in 2017
High 20,000 to low 30,000 range of the Chevy electric car annually once production is ramped up
Sonic and Bolt will be built off the same platform

it is coming...

I'm expecting late 2016, early 2017. So for the next 20-24 months, I'll be saving up for it. As a previous Volt owner, I'm excited!

Previous Volt owner, or currently a Volt owner and will be 'previous' once the Bolt comes out?

If they get it here in late 2016 the wait really isn't that long... the lead-up to the Volt and the Leaf seemed longer than that I think?
