Latest buzz surrounding the Chevy Bolt EV

The newer Bolt models have a little better exterior styling and better energy setting software to allow picking a specific charge limit instead of the single “hilltop reserve” setting on the original Bolt. I prefer the original shift lever to the button transmission control. The factors above...

Latest buzz surrounding the Chevy Bolt EV

My Bolt is seven years old, so I am starting to consider upgrade to a new one, though my current Bolt looks and runs great. The show stopper for me would be the lack of Apple CarPlay. I don’t want yet another device subscription for the car’s onboard apps. I like the apps on my iPhone and I...

Can Bolts charge at Tesla superchargers yet?

Good information. It probably depends on where you’re at whether or not network congestion is an issue. So far Spectrum has been performing OK in the area where I live. Verizon probably has the best customer service I have experienced when calling their 800 number. Where I live, Spectrum has...

Latest buzz surrounding the Chevy Bolt EV

Actually, Honda may be using thinly disguised GM software. Out of Spec reviews drove a Honda journalist test vehicle and at one point it popped up a message on the screen which contained wording, I forget exactly what, which revealed that that the software is actually GM. Those were...

Can Bolts charge at Tesla superchargers yet?

At the risk of going off topic… If you want to get a smart phone to run the MyChevrolet app and you haven’t used a smart phone before, then Apple iPhone is a little easier to get started than Android. I’ve had both. I like the Samsung Android phones. The things I like about Apple is that they...

    My Flawless (almost) 2017 Bolt

I presume that was a humorous remark… I picked up several cards of six CR2032 cells with the generic Enoughelec brand at a local discount store for $2 per card. The even though they’re generic, the cells still last at least s few years in the Bolt key. I won’t complain too much having to spend...

Bolt EV powers down while driving, with "Minimum" 15 miles charge remaining

Thanks for bring that. I remember reading the page in the manual, and it doe not warn the vehicle will stop abruptly. The message could improved by adding words to the effect. “Acknowledge this, and continue emergency driving, by pressing ✔️.” It is probably almost impossible to anticipate...

Can Bolts charge at Tesla superchargers yet?

I received th NACS adapter a few weeks ago, but haven’t had a the need to charge at aTesla yet. I’m curious if you had to use the app, or if the Super Charger was able to read the VIN through the cable and bill you. I know Tesla owners get that feature so that they can just plug in and charge...

Using EVExtend on the Bolt EV for emergency 120V up to 1,500 watts

Thanks for the reply. It seems like the simple causes are off the table. The consensus seeems to be that one or more items may require a ground connection. Also double check the power frequency on the kill-a-watt meter. If it is more than a few Hz away from either 60 or 50 maybe the furnace...

Using EVExtend on the Bolt EV for emergency 120V up to 1,500 watts

Google AI says the igniter draws about 2 to 5 amps at 24 volts. That is at most 120 Watts. The inducer fan and blower motor should together be under 1,000 Watts. I recommend getting a Kill-a-Watt plug-in meter. They’re bout $25 +/- at Harbor Freight and other hardware stores. Check voltage...

What is the fate of the market for 2017-19 Bolt EVs?

I use the Kelly web site kbb.com to check pricing, I enter the data as if I am looking to purchase a private sale car which matches the options and condition of my car. I checked my 2017 Bolt about a week ago and kbb said that I should expect to pay about $16K for a car similar to mine. That...

    My chevy app now different

I just checked the IOS version of MyChevrolet. The settings screen says version 7.0.1 (c) 2021. I know the app updated recently, so I don’t totally trust the reported version information. The battery level and plugged-in status are showing correctly on the My Vehicle page of the app.

    New member, new to Bolt

Something to keep in mind is that GM is in the process of walking away from Android Auto / Apple CarPlay in favor of their captive infotainment system on newer models. The Bolt and Bolt EUV models through 2023 include Android Auto and CarPlay. Being stuck with OnStar, not being able to use my...

    Garage Door Opener Recommendations?

Going back to the original post, I would follow Occam’s Razor that the simplest approach is often the best. I would stay away from the belt or track drive models and go with a simple chain drive or possibly a screw drive unit. The chain is very simple and just needs a bit of light oil wiped on...

    Garage Door Opener Recommendations?

I originally had a Genie track drive and the nylon belt broke after about 15 years of use. I replaced the belt drive with a screw drive Genie because I could re-use some of the mounting hardware. The screw drive unit worked until I had the garage replaced. The door was a double wide...

    Bolt Range Issue

I believe I forgot to click Post reply when I commented previously. Energy consumption is a particular fixed constant times velocity cubed due to wind resistance of the frontal area. At higher speed, a small increase dramatically increases energy consumption due to the velocity cubed factor...

Can Bolts charge at Tesla superchargers yet?

odioc charged from 80 miles to 80%. Thst is probably about 55% of the battery’s ~62 KWH capacity for $14.40 thst works out to about 42 cents per KWH. One of my friends recently used the Tesla app to charge his Bolt and was charged 53 cents per KWH. Location may affect the price, but if...

    EVSE L1 cord

Thanks for the suggestions, they’re much simpler. I did like the people above and bought a dryer pigtail cord and a high quality Hubbell 15 amp cord socket for the existing GM / Clipper Creek EVSE cord supplied with the car. It is only 16 amps, but I have yet to have a problem with having...

    Bolt Range Issue

Speed makes a big difference. Energy consumption is a constant to be determined times velocity cubed, thanks to frontal area wind resistance. Going a little faster takes massively more energy.

    Bolt Range Issue

My 2017 Bolt was advertised as 238 mile range and when the battery was replaced due to the recall, the paperwork said the range had been upgraded to 259 miles by the slightly larger battery. That isn’t a huge difference, but it is still appreciated.
