No, the app works without an OnStar subscription plan. Remote start (precondition) lock, unlock, tire pressure, charging status, etc...

OK then... I would take the excellent advice that SparkE gave you and consider using the factory Bolt EVSE (comes with car) and the cars departure based charging feature. Problem solved for very little $$...

When you say "use delayed charging" you understand that you can set the Bolt for departure based charging, and nothing special is required of the EVSE?

I think it is luck and experience, experience = sales volume, and the Bolt is a low volume vehicle. When GM launched the Volt they had a "red carpet" service center that coordinated all issues to make sure the lack of field experience with the PHEV did not negatively impact the customer...

Glad to hear that likely resolved it for you! Yes, I can agree that the User Interface takes a little getting used to, I have had my Bolt a little over a year and I now can find most settings without much thought. The location based charging also expires after ?? days. It will flash a message...
