Motor Trend demo'ed their Bolt EV test car

Motor Trend had their Bolt EV at an EV event on Saturday and gave a ride to an OC Tesla Club member, Dennis Pascual. Here's a link to his Periscope videos. https://www.periscope.tv/dennis_p/1djGXYoXbzVJZ I recognize the demo driver as Kim Reynolds, the Testing Director at Motor Trend. So...

The Chevy Bolt Will Cost $37,495

Of course it's speculation. Let's just use the latest available information in that discussion. Also, let us also be careful about speculation ending at the "purchase contract for a car with defined specifications", especially when discussing Tesla. There's more than a few Model S owners...

The Chevy Bolt Will Cost $37,495

I can't think of any feature on the Model 3 that would need to be optioned up from the base model to exceed the base Bolt EV LT, given what we know about it today and the obvious differences in the design. It will cost $36,200 (incl $1200 dest) vs $37,495 for the base Bolt EV. I was...

    EPA Test Data released

No, you can kind of think of it as they need a 67.5 kWh battery IN THE WALL to fully recharge a 60 kWh battery in the car. Charging losses from the wall to the battery account for the difference.

    EPA Test Data released

Gary, You didn't account for charging losses. The 28.3 kWh/100mi number is based on the EPA fuel economy data (119 MPGe) and so it includes charging losses. The real over-the-road efficiency of 25.2 kWh/100 mi is calculated from the usable battery capacity divided by EPA range, 60/2.38= 25.2...

    Priicing next week?

Looks like greencarreports did the math wrong on the Premier trim pricing. I think this correct: Starting MSRP: $40,905 Total MSRP: $41,780 (adds $875 for DFC) The $750 DCFC, plus any other options (packages, some paint colors, floor mats, etc.), is in addition to the total MSRP.

    Priicing next week?

According to insideevs, the Premier trim DOES NOT include DCFC.

    Priicing next week?

http://www.gm.com/mol/m-2016-sep-0920-bolt-pricing.html And the press release says destination freight IS included in MSRP. This would be a large shift in pricing structure if true. I don't believe it. For reference, the GM Bolt EV website says destination freight is not included in the...

    Priicing next week?

Unlike the Electrek article, I don't think this $37,495 includes Destination Freight. That might be another $875.

    Priicing next week?

http://insideevs.com/chevrolet-bolt-ev-priced-from-37495-under-30k-with-incentives/ From this article: "Also available the Premier trim, which includes standard DC fast charging, from $40,905."

GM not planning to fund CCS fast chargers

The only 100kW chargers that I can find are the evtec espresso&charge and the Signet FC-100k. http://www.evtec.ch/files/4114/4843/8748/factsheet_espressocharge_en.pdf http://www.novacharge.net/charging-stations/products/signet/ The first one looks the most intriguing, but who knows when the...

GM not planning to fund CCS fast chargers

Great post, well said. One minor point is that not ALL cars besides Tesla's are limited to 50 kW DC fast charging. The Soul EV will do 72 kW via CHAdeMO. Plus, the soon to be released IONIQ Electric will do 100 kW via CCS. Still your point is valid, most non-Tesla BEVs and the infrastructure...

Chevy Bolt will have 238 miles of range, EPA says !!

I'm not an EE, but I think all of the on board chargers spec'd between 6.6 and 7.7 kW are functionally the same. The only difference is the assumed input voltage. The circuits have to be designed to handle anything between 208V (three-phase) and 240V (split-phase) and at 32A that range is...

Chevy Bolt will have 238 miles of range, EPA says !!

And this is one reason why it's not a good idea to just cut and paste the text of article. You [Voltage] can mislead people into thinking that you actually wrote the article. Those words were written by Roberto Baldwin from Engadget. The same error was called out in the comments section of...

Chevy Bolt will have 238 miles of range, EPA says !!

While it appears from the test drives that the usable capacity is nearly 60 kWh, I've never seen any qualification from GM on whether the 60 kWh battery spec is total or usable. Can you provide the GM source that says it's 60 kWh usable?

Chevy Bolt will have 238 miles of range, EPA says !!

I noticed this too. Looks like the data may be from ChargePoint. Either way, it should have been simple to filter for CCS stations. Someone in GM marketing is oblivious or unethical.

Heated seats are Premier trim only

Good catch, I missed that! I'd expect most dealers to order this package with the LT trim. A base model (no packages, LT trim) is a non-starter in my book due to the lack of seat heaters. I hope they pull another rabbit out of the hat with the pricing.

Heated seats are Premier trim only

The Premier trim level gets you "Front and Rear Heated Seats" and "Leather-Wrapped Heated Steering Wheel". I could see putting the steering wheel in the Premier trim but heated seats? Heated seats should be standard in all BEVs, especially the front seat...
