I just took delivery of my Bolt. I have already installed a Clipper Creek 32amp charger in my garage. When I dove into the screens on the car, the charge mode screen has a charge limit option of 8 or 12 amps. Please explain. Thanks.

By the way, I live in Arlington, MA and if other Bolt owners want to get together in person, I'm game.

That refers to Level 1, or 120V charging. The convenience charge cord that comes with the car can handle 12A, but not all home outlets can safely do that. To be conservative, GM programmed the Bolt to default to only 8A. If you know the circuit is safe, you can bump it up to 12A.

Note that 8A / 120V charging is less than 1kW. That means it takes well over 60 hours (2 1/2 days!) to charge the car from dead to full.

Congratulations on your new car, and welcome to the forum!

Also, if you set your home location as the home charger in the computer, it won't switch the 8/12 amp selector on each use. It will stay at 12 if you selected it. It was really annoying to jump out of the car and then have to remember to check that setting.

Ordering a 24 amp 14-30 ClipperCreek model here soon...
