For anyone looking for this in the future, it appears to just have something to do with the way the app connects to the car when it's Bluetooth only. I have to give the car some command before it updates the status. Guessing it has to "wake up." The whole locked/unlocked thing is a red herring.

It mostly just seems crazy to me they didn’t even think to make it an after market option. I’d probably pay upwards $1500 to add it. I get it’s a very different charging system, but without being cliche we have the technology.
