The Bolt only has one gear, so there is no such thing as a low gear. The "L" is poorly named as it will confuse people who have driven ICE which is everyone. I always drive in "L" in the city and on the highway. With the more aggressive "L" mode regen, I am getting close to 300 miles range.

I haven't really noticed a time lag. My bigger problem is being lazy and not fully depressing the button.

Don't mess with overloading older wiring. Your day could end badly. You probably have your main panel in the garage or close to it. For not much money, you could have a local electrition come out and add a dedicated breaker in the panel (assuming there is room) with a three-wire outlet next...

One side question -- are the heated seats and steering wheel included in the preconditioning?
