Happy to be here on the Bolt Forum! I'm very excited to see this make it to production, although the production Bolt EV likely won't have a glass roof or the flush pop-out door handles. Some bean counter will remove them for the production version...

I think GM is anticipating increased range from the LEAF and other current electric vehicles. If Nissan has access to higher energy density batteries by 2017 that allows them to have a greater than 200 mile LEAF, then GM will also have access to it (in theory). Plus, since it's 3 years away...

Personally, I think the Bolt is a bigger competitor to the i3 than to the Tesla Model 3 I guess mostly because of styling, and I guess the i3 needs a range extender to get to 200 miles and the Bolt EV won't!

I wouldn't bet against Tesla. Yes, to achieve mass market price and have 200 or more miles range means a small and light vehicle, and those constraints apply to Tesla as well. However, Elon and Tesla have impressed before with their design, function and range.

Tesla need not worry - this is a Chevy Spark crossed with a Honda Fit EV, with some of the bad front end elements of the i3.
