Does the $9K loss figure "add up"?

Oh, just stop it. Your argument is ridiculous, and being an engineer is not a sufficient excuse! I could make the greatest, most profitable electric car ever, given unlimited time and funding. Your saying that Tesla can do so means exactly nothing. Because unlimited time and funding do not...

Does the $9K loss figure "add up"?

No it isn't. It would take them 10 years, which they do not have. Wall Street's patience has its limits. So Tesla can not do it. Ever.

Does the $9K loss figure "add up"?

Well, that's the crux of the matter, isn't it? In time, and if they survive. Tesla's been working on this for fourteen years now, and they still have a very long way to go to become cost efficient. My guess is that it would take them another 10 years, and that they cannot survive that long...

Does the $9K loss figure "add up"?

I dunno, I kind of liked the Model T comparison. :) It started out slow, but 15 million were manufactured over 20 years, eventually reaching just over 2 million cars sold per year. Of course, what the comparison really shows is that neither Bolt nor Tesla has a prayer of following in the...

Anyone caught with their pants down?

It is always available for me, afaik. Onstar uses AT&T, and my cell phone is Verizon. I don't think my Bolt has been outside both of those coverage areas at any time since I bought it. Of course, there are places without cell data coverage (Elbonia comes to mind), and an ODB link would still...

Does the $9K loss figure "add up"?

"The early Model 3s will be horribly negative margin, particularly on day one, when I say literally day one. Because you're starting at a tiny, tiny rate, as you spool up this giant machine. So, it's – like, no company on Earth could – it's not a function of Tesla. It is like physically...

Anyone caught with their pants down?

The car does not, but the app does. At least, I assume it does - why wouldn't it? I suppose we won't know for sure until someone tries it. I've never run the battery down much below 20% myself, so I can not speak from experience.

Apple CarPlay music selection with vehicle in motion

Yes, I am sure it could be fixed in software. But first, you'd have to fix lawyers, the litigious environment and the plaintiffs' bar. That'll be a lot tougher.

Anyone caught with their pants down?

The standard Bolt app - myChevrolet - gives you very granular visibility into the remaining battery percentage - 1% increments. Is LeafSpy more granular than that? I don't see how tenths of a percent or hundredths of a percent would really provide any meaningful improvement over what our app...

Full charge mileage displayed isn't 238

You do sound awfully bossy here. When you become Führer, you can force us all to do things your way. In the meantime, you might as well accept the fact that many people will make choices that are different from yours. Call it diversity. It's a good thing! ;)

Full charge mileage displayed isn't 238

When confronted with a choice between comfort and discomfort, I usually choose comfort. So do most people all across the world. Comfort is better. How are you not getting this? :?:

If the man does not want to minimally alter his habits, that is his right. If he wants to buy a Bolt and not a Tesla, that's no skin of your nose. If he wants to drive the Bolt like a BMW, then that's exactly what he should do. It's a free country. I'm with sgt on this one. I drive my Bolt...

Anyone caught with their pants down?

So, did it feel like your propulsion power was actually reduced? What was that like? I haven't heard of anyone running out of power completely in a Bolt, or anyone else who'd come as close as you did. Were you intending to cut it close that day, or did something take you by surprise?

    Battery Management

Yes. Life is far to short to spend it painstakingly managing a car battery. I use hilltop reserve charging to charge to 87% daily, and set the timer to complete charging just before my commute. It's all automatic, and I just never worry about it. Gives me enough juice for the day, and should...

Full charge mileage displayed isn't 238

I bet the Bolt would be fine with your normal driving style for the 180 miles, in decent weather. Based on my own driving style and Bolt experience, no problem. But your attitude is eminently sensible. If it's too close for comfort, the BMW is preferable.

    HOV Stickers

Hello Maxters - Would you be willing to post a photo? I'd like to stick them on the plastic also, but my concern is they will fall off after a few car washes. Seems like the adhesive would hold a lot tighter - maybe too well - on paint. Do they seem to stick firmly enough for you on the plastic?

    SOC Guage on vehicle?

I don't see any significant value that could be added by a BoltSpy. As noted above, SOC is already available to within 1% in the mychevrolet app. I agree that a dashboard SOC with 1% precision would be better. Why withhold that data from drivers, or make us use a phone app while we're...

    Extended Warranty

Most is not all. Do you understand the difference? In fact, I did answer your question, promptly and clearly. You just refused to accept the answer, erroneously insisting there must be an insurance company, There's no point in answering questions for someone who won't listen to the answer.

    Extended Warranty

Nonsense. California law explicitly authorizes dealer warranty service contracts without any participation by an admitted insurer. Some extended warranties are backed by admitted insurers, or by licensed Vehicle Service Contract Providers (VSCPs), but dealer direct contracts are perfectly...
