Chevy Bolt on schedule for production in Q4 2016

To explain a little bit more, at the GM Conference, GM announced the battery in the Bolt will cost them $145 per kWh, which is a secured price, not an estimate, and is industry leading. By 2020, GM is hoping that cost will be as low as $100 per kWh.

    Bolt interior rear seat photos?

It can certainly seat 4 comfortably as that seems to be a focus for GM’s new smaller platform (‘new’ Sonic if you will), but GM isn’t size-competing the Bolt with the LEAF at all, so its not dimensionally able to accommodate 5 on a reasonable level. If your priority is roominess, this probably...

Chevy has 55 pre-production Bolt EV test mules

I don't think we can order cupcakes and balloons yet. “The Chevrolet Bolt EV’s chief engineer also added that these early test cars are already exceeding 200 miles of range.” Under what conditions? Constant 25 mph in no wind situations? Or is this freeway driving? I don't think they're on...

GM says future is electric but current profit is gas guzzler

The press release says that GM doesn't disclose the profit or losses of specific models, but analysts think the electrified models are losing money. Does that mean the Volt still isn't making any money? Even with the Volt 2 coming out? Have they really spent that much on research, or profit...

Secret report from someone asks to anonymously rate Bolt....

Sometime in late 2014, GM contacted a number of Chevy Volt and other EV owners, and invited them to a market research study in Santa Fe Springs, CA. Chevrolet had a 'secret' EV vehicle to present, and had 3 other vehicles also with badges removed. They weren't supposed to tell anyone about...

GM is talking about aluminum and carbon fiber in Bolt EV

This is a quote from the GM press release ont he Chevrolet Bolt EV from the Shanghai Motor Show: Looks like GM is now talking about lightweighting the Bolt which also makes it less susceptible to corrosion and rust!

    GM Bolt EV in Canada?

Does anyone know if Chevrolet has confirmed the Bolt EV will be available in Canada, or any country other than the US yet? I know they say it won't be a compliance EV, but they also said that about the Spark, which has been around for years, and still has limited availability....

Sounds like the Spark EV is dead once the Bolt gets here

Other news outlets are saying the Spark EV won't continue? "Though yet to be confirmed by GM, evidence suggests that the brand’s latest three- and four-cylinder Ecotech engines will be utilized for the new Spark. However, the all-electric plugin version of the vehicle will be notably absent...

Chevrolet Bolt vs Tesla Model 3

You also have to remember that we've seen the Bolt (we haven't seen the Model 3) and it isn't a sub-compact like the Fit EV... Also, Elon himself has recently said the Model 3 will be a simple/basic car, it has to be to be in that price point!

    No fast charging?

If GM only uses a 3.3kW charger with a 50 kWh battery pack, than that would be a pretty clear sign that GM doesn't actually want to sell many of these! The way Mary is pushing this to market, I think she wants this thing to succeed, so it will need at least a 6.6kW charging option.

    It's coming..... and it's official!

We all new it was coming, but it's nice to hear it officially now!

Any chance of an AWD Bolt EV?

I would think the extra cost would be more than people would want to pay for a small vehicle like the Bolt... all wheel drive would probably add 20% to the total vehicle cost. Also, the instant torque and computer control and low center of gravity gives a front-wheel drive electric vehicle...

GM's James Bell says Bolt in showrooms in 2016 - he's wrong

In a youtube video below, Head of Consumer Affairs at GM discusses the Bolt. He says it will be in showrooms in 2016 for a starting price of "about $30,000" Despite what James Bell said, GM still has no official position on whether the Bolt will make production status. So, still no...

Glass roof - will it make it to production?

That's a good point - the extra reinforcement in the front and rear of the roof to provide strength as well as the heavy glass - compared to a full 'monocoque' roof structure where the whole piece is structural.

    No fast charging?

Let's first see if Tesla will actually bring the Model 3 by 2017, and then see if they can bring it at around the same price-point, (some experts are guessing it will be closer to $50,000 than the $30,000 Tesla has been advertising), then we will see if Tesla has something to worry about.

Will GM still sell the Spark EV?

GM states the Bolt will likely sell along side the Spark EV. Does that mean they will take the Spark EV nationwide when the Bolt is available nationwide? Also, is the price differential great enough for people to choose the 100 mile Spark EV vs the 200 mile Bolt EV?
