Too much regen in D mode

100% agree on that. It is too easy to add power or get unwanted regen when all you want to do is coast. Personally, I'd rather switch off 1-pedal driving altogether, and just have the car coast when I lift off the accelerator. Much easier to modulate the amount of regen (you want) through the...

Too much regen in D mode

With my VW, flipping into neutral and coasting was second nature. All hypermilers worth their salt do it. I did it all the time, but with my EV, I find it unnecessary. I can coast just as far by finding the 0 kWh point with the accelerator. No buttons, paddles, or otherwise redundant...

Too much regen in D mode

Coasting while "N" is selected, or at the "neutral" point on the accelerator pedal between regen & consumption is essentially the same thing (from an efficiency standpoint) isn't it? Maybe I'm missing something, but I think a switchable "coasting" option would be just as redundant as using the...

    Death to pedestrians!

While we don't always agree on everything, we likely have more in common than you realize. With 42 solar panels on my roof charging my car as I write this, I'm not your typical "oilman". https://easyview.auroravision.net/easyview/index.html?entityId=7466210 In fact, I don't work in the oil...

    Death to pedestrians!

Yeah, I'm not buying it either. Let's face it, our EV's are otherwise nearly silent. The sound generator is a common sense safety feature. If the sound alerts a distracted pedestrian to our approaching cars, where's the harm in that? Who cares who's "at fault"...no one wants to hurt anyone...

Too much regen in D mode

Just a thought, isn't there a point where you're essentially in "neutral" with all EV's that have one-pedal driving? When I used to hypermile my VW, it's DSG transmission made slipping into neutral really easy, and did zero harm to the transmission due to it's design. I've put my EV into...

2017 Nissan Leaf Hits Back At Chevrolet Bolt

And: "Options include an optional heat pump that will keep the cabin cozy and extend overall range compared to the conventional resistance heater. That's actually a pretty big deal. It would be nice to see more EV's come standard with them, especially for those of us that live in northern...

    Hello from ChargePoint!

I'm guessing that a turnkey installation for a 50kW charger costs at least $50K + an ongoing service / maintenance contract. I'm also guessing that ChargePoint shares in charging revenue so the business case for getting a charger installed is (mostly) to attract customers to your existing...

    Hello from ChargePoint!

As all ChargePoint stations are "host owned", do you see businesses setting them up more as a business opportunity on the charging side, or to attract customers to their main businesses, or because they are being good corporate citizens concerned about the environment? The easy answer is of...

Speed vs Efficiency with respect to total travel time

Have you heard of anyone doing that on a Prius Prime? Is that even possible?

Speed vs Efficiency with respect to total travel time

We drove out to a dog show in southern Alberta (and back) yesterday. 782 km / 485.9 miles. I drove 80 mph on the way down, but was hauling ass at 85 on the way back. No charging stops and/or fill ups required. Burned just over 10 gallons of diesel, averaging 47.9 mpg. I don't know of any...

Speed vs Efficiency with respect to total travel time

Further, I see this as the main takeaway from the article: "Again, to have the lowest overall travel time, it is not advantageous to drive slower to get improved energy consumption, since the fast chargers can upload power so much faster than you can consume it." Very interesting. This flies...

    Rumors of a Buick "Bolt"

Cadillac is usually considered GM's "premium" brand however I've sat in a lot of very nice Buicks. The Lacrosse comes to mind, which is a very nice car, and not lacking in any way. The Enclave is nice too. GM is still working hard to shed the grandpa driving the Cadillac Deville image, and...

    Rumors of a Buick "Bolt"

Back in November, I mused about a Cadillac version - the "BLR" http://www.mychevybolt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4871&hilit=cadillac It's interesting that some variant of this notion could actually happen! A few others referenced the failed Cadillac ELR. That was a terrible car, but an...

Tesla Model 3 - Specs released

Hey Seamus, welcome to the forum! Tesla used to quote pricing "after" incentives. Take a look at the language on the Model 3 home page: Model 3 Designed to attain the highest safety ratings in every category, Model 3 achieves 220 miles of range while starting at only $35,000 before...

    DC fast charger

While that's a true hypothetical, it's unlikely that any one of the handful of Model 3 owners in Billings would acutually choose to spend $3300 for Tesla to come out to fix a minor issue. My guess is most of them fully realize that service options could be limited in their area - but choose to...

Tesla Model 3 - Specs released

For sure. Could you imagine if the Model 3 shipped with uncomfortable seats, or suddenly went dead - stranding a few of the first owners? It would be a HUGE deal (not just curious discussion on a few Internet boards). TSLA stock would take a hit, and analysts would start shorting it. Not a...

    DC fast charger

Why? Tesla offers mobile service anywhere in the US & Canada. If you have a problem, they will come to you. Alberta is unlikely to be a good place to own a Mercedes B-Class Electric, yet, I'm driving one anyway. If I need service, my closest dealer is Seattle (local dealers aren't EV...

    DC fast charger

Maybe it was the zoom level, or screen resolution. I'll stipulate that both the east and west coasts have fairly decent DCFC coverage. Both maps show the relative lack of DCFC in the midwest, and rural areas. There are obvious gaps in the network of CCS charging sites.

    DC fast charger

I didn't (unless Plugshare's own map is 2-years old). I went on Plugshare's site a couple of hours ago, filtered everything except CCS sites, and uploaded a screenshot. If it's in error, please feel free to correct it with updated data from another source.
