    Winter Tires & Wheels

From experience struggling years doing it the hard way, I finally figured out that the right tools make it easy. You'd be surprised how quick changing four wheels is with a decent jack and cordless impact wrench (which neither cost a lot these days). It's now actually fun to do. Kind of like...

    California Rebates, etc.

I guess I just see a disparity between the audience that shops a $40,000 car, and the basic needs of someone that lives their life in poverty. Sure, governments can do "both" but sometimes it makes more sense to direct funds where it can do the most help. A single mom at the poverty level is...

    Charge and range estimate

I remember Spark EV's were on a "massive" sale too. As I recall, leases were something like $79 per month. The car was much smaller than I wanted, and I don't much care for leasing, but at that price...I figured sign me up! That's when the reality set in that I live in Canada, not California...

    Charge and range estimate

It's a little bit of an apples to oranges comparison when comparing battery longevity of a Volt with a Bolt. As I mentioned earlier, GM officials have said that the Bolt uses "almost all" of it's total battery capacity. The Volt does not. Gen 1 Volts only used 10.3 kWh out of the battery's 16...

    California Rebates, etc.

Just wondering if I'm the only one that figures a $140M program / $2500 rebate could be better spent helping people living at the poverty level with the basic necessities of life (food, clothing, shelter) - rather than subsidizing the price of a shiny new car they probably can't afford.

    Charge and range estimate

I knew you were referring to battery degradation. GM believes (based on warranty coverage) that worst case, there should be at least 60% battery remaining after 8-years / 100K miles. I do too. Even at that point, having at least 142 miles of range (based on EPA 238) is a lot for basic...

    Winter Tires & Wheels

In the US, figure on about $60 per TPMS sensor. Here's a site in Canada that has them (but most tire shops probably do too)...

    First Road Trip and Impressions

I think the Bolt's overall cargo area (rear-seats folded) is actually a little larger than my B250e, but how it's configured is a compromise for me. I really liked the Spark EV, and while rear-seat legroom was fine, the space behind the rear seats doesn't work for us. The Bolt seems similarly...

    Dolly towing a Chevy Bolt

Never said they wouldn't be available, just that they may not be available (and that gasoline usually is). I bought my Clipper Creek HCS-40P specifically because it can plug into the common 14-50 plugs found at campsites. There are of course workarounds like using a gasoline generator to...

    Dolly towing a Chevy Bolt

No more ICE vehicles for you...except for the RV :) You can tow a Bolt behind an RV, but it certainly is not a "great" tow vehicle. For that, look no further than an older Honda CR-V. No tow dolly required. The Bolt + dolly is a big load...a lighter vehicle will give you better fuel economy...

    First Road Trip and Impressions

Thanks for posting your experience, Brian...and congratulations again. To me, the inside of the Bolt feels a little narrow though headroom & legroom were fine. Just from a "feel" standpoint, does the Bolt's cabin feel larger or smaller than the Leaf, and if you can, describe the real-life /...

    Charge and range estimate

I'll admit that in the absence of a long service history track record, I jumped into the deep end of the pool buying my B250e. I'm betting that the overall inherent reliability of EV's will serve me well down the road, but who knows. As for the Bolt "self destructing" in 8 years...I doubt...

    Charge and range estimate

Makes perfect sense...but after 3 years, do you believe the Bolt will be obsolete - and if so, by what measure? Lease returned EVs still have a lot of value. I'd argue MUCH more value than their 50% (or more) depreciation suggests they do. My formerly $51,000 Mercedes EV became a $23,000...

    Charge and range estimate

No, and to quote Brian "I was talking more to the silent/casual observer and less to those who have shared numbers in this thread." Range estimate threads tend to morph into contests searching for the range king of the road. We tend to see a few of us minimizing the skill involved in driving...

    Charge and range estimate

Good point, Sean! A lot of us use solar to charge our cars. As with hydroelectric generation, the solar power is already clean, so driving "normally" or for extreme efficiency (i.e like "grandma") has the same zero environmental impact. I never considered that! I'd add that unless you're...

    Charge and range estimate

Another thing to consider is if you actually "need" to drive 300+ miles on a charge, or are you doing it to compete for bragging rights? I love to hypermile too, but further to Brian's point, continued attempts at range "personal bests" will reduce the battery's range over the long term. We...

Winter, hilltop reserve, and battery conditioning

Again, worst case...in the coldest of conditions; you'll still get at least 120 miles of range. Not sure if that's enough for your "run to town" or not, but it sounds like you're not planning to put a lot of miles on your car, so it probably is. You've got a big battery, so you likely don't...

My impressions from my first Bolt EV test drive

Me too...I'd like to see something a little longer / bigger like an Equinox - even if the added bulk reduced range to ~200 miles.

Winter, hilltop reserve, and battery conditioning

I'd echo the last post. While there aren't a lot of us with experience driving a Bolt in the winter, there are a lot of with experience driving Leafs, Teslas, etc, in the winter. This will be my second winter driving my 28 kWh EV, and the drop in range is dramatic the colder it gets. No EV's...

    Hilltop Reserve

Not that it matters...we have two cars in our garage - the X3 and the B250e. Our remaining "fleet" of cars are parked at our other places. My wife commutes to work with the X3 and the B250e is my daily driver (that I use at least 95% of the time). After hours, and on weekends we both drive...
