    aesthetic modifications

I used to struggle with this too as every board seems to have their own way of posting photos - until I started using Imgur (imgur.com). So easy to use, and free. Works with all forums / boards I frequent. Just drag & drop the photo, then just copy & paste the bbcode link from the menu. I...

    Bought one, and immediately modified...

How about one of these to replace the bow-tie? With a simple badge change, you'd be driving the Model Y prototype.

Bolt EV powers down while driving, with "Minimum" 15 miles charge remaining

EV's don't get flat tires, however they ARE prone to "sudden tire failure". :D The OP's issue could simply have happened due to a low 12V battery. If he's so concerned, just take the car in for service, and do the board a solid by reporting back. Who knows, there may be a TSB on this.

Amazing low cost to run an EV

Along with figuring the cost of the panels/inverters/labor/etc., each kWh your solar generates has value - it isn't "free" or should be considered as a $0.00 value. For example, if the cost per kWh in your area is $0.12 - one kWh generated from your solar is worth $0.12 regardless if you sell...

    6 Weeks & Tire Failed--Is It Covered?

First off, you need to accept this isn't "tire failure". It's a puncture. If you had bought the tire at Costco, it's very likely they would have replaced the tire under Costco's road hazard warranty. I've had a couple of sidewall punctures, and both times they replaced the tire free of...

152 mile range when fully charged?

I see where you're coming from. Makes sense. I guess that now that I've been driving an EV for a while; I'm not comparing the cost of electrons against the price of gasoline as much as I used to. My "absolute" cost of driving the EV goes up in winter because I have to charge more often to...

152 mile range when fully charged?

Not sure I quite get where you're going with this, Brian. We can accept that an EV is dramatically less efficient in cold temperatures - and can take up to twice the number of kWh's to drive the same distance that it does in summer - so how does an EV save "even more money" in winter? No...

    Baby it’s cold outside

I drive a B250e, (with 28 kWh battery) and it's my second winter season with the car. It was -19F last Friday. Starting from my heated garage, and a full charge, I did a round trip to see a client. 22 miles each way / 44 miles total. Car sat for 3 hours outside (unplugged) before making the...

Bolt winter performance, an ICE comparison

Yeah, I shouldn't have called it "fluff". No doubt there are various features that are very big deals to some, and for valid reasons. I just think more EV's should have heat pumps, or at least an option for those that will make use of it. I wish my EV had one.

Bolt winter performance, an ICE comparison

You're missing the point, Sean. Joe Public won't be buying a heating or cooling vest to save on kWh's to make up for the car's inefficiencies. It doesn't matter if heating cabin air is "terribly inefficient". When normal people are cold, they tend to turn on the heat...they don't typically...

Bolt winter performance, an ICE comparison

Neil, I think this is the kind of post that Leftie is referring to. We justify cheap workarounds on a $40,000 car to solve issues when an automaker could have simply designed it right in the first place. The Bolt initially fires up 9000 watts regardless if it's 30 degrees or -30 degrees, if a...

New tech battery for our 2017 bolts in the future?

You're just catching on to this now? With that said, while the battery pack in a 2018 Leaf won't fit your 2014 model - you still can replace the battery in your old Leaf for ~$6,000 if you want to. Pretty sure they make a profit on those too...

BC Fast Charging opens to the Kootenays

Just found out there is a "FLO" station at a mall about 10 minutes from my house. Nice!

So do you think they'll really kill the federal $7500?

    Winter Tires & Wheels

Just realized there is an advantage to driving a 90-mile EV without fast charging - I'll always be within the 100 mile AAA radius for a free tow home. No need to haul around a heavy spare tire and jack. That's so 1970's. Chalk one up for compliance cars. :D

Test Drive: Kia Soul EV vs Bolt Premiere vs 2013 Leaf SV

I dig the Spark EV too, but my wife veto'd it. I was intoxicated by it's tire melting torque but she made me come to the logical realization that it was too small. Lots of guys like the 500e too. Fun, and incredibly affordable (especially used) but way to small for us - yes, even with the...

    My bolt is completely dead

I think we may see several threads like this one, especially because there is a surplus of Bolt EV's sitting on dealer lots for months at a time. The issue can happen with most electric cars. The car I bought was sitting on a lot for 5 months. It was in a market were few people are interested...

    ~~ This could change EVERYTHING! .. ~~

This is unusual, not typical. We had the company that sold us our nat gas barbeque run a line from our basement out to the back of our house, with two outlets - one to the bbq, another to our patio heater. 900 bucks including labor & materials. Last month, we installed an on-demand nat gas...
