    Selecting a Level-2 Charger

"NEMA 14-50 receptacle, it should be fed by a 50A breaker and 6AWG wiring" Actually, electrical code only requires 8ga. for a relatively short 25 ft. 50a circuit. 6ga. or even 4ga. can be required for longer runs, mainly because the voltage drop would be less.

    Selecting a Level-2 Charger

So you put a 30a outlet on the circuit to protect against future accidents... The only difference between 30a and 50a outlets is the fourth neutral "pin", which is shaped so that a 50a plug cannot be inserted in a 30a outlet. Interestingly, most EVSEs don't have a Neutral pin on their plug, so...

How long does it take to build a Bolt?

Meanwhile, for one data point, I ordered Jan. 3. The car was manufactured the week of Feb. 13th. It is now "in the shipping process," and I'm told that it was loaded on a train this morning, the 28th. With luck, I'll have it mid-March, so figure 10 weeks from order.

Lloyd Mats now available for Bolt

    1) Not usually. They do a better job of fitting than OEM, but generally same shape. 2) Based on experience with other cars, Ebony should be as close as you will get. Black is really Black, The medium grey is about 40% battleship grey. Request a color sample if critical. Get the standard edges -...

    SOC Guage on vehicle?

If the concern is whether you can make those last 15 miles, I would never rely on a charge estimate to be accurate. When a lithium battery comes near the bottom of its charge, voltage drops like a stone, and is even less predictable than usual because of the steep slope of the curve.

    SOC Guage on vehicle?

As it happens, Estimating the state of charge of a Lithium battery is quite difficult. You can't measure it directly - SoC is an engineering construct composed of a lot of fixed and variable factors. Measurement requires precision of hundredths of a volt, which is the only relevant thing you...

    Bolt keeps honking at me...

Just goes to show that you can be sub-mental, and still get a driver's license...

    Bolt keeps honking at me...

If the car is "On" and you exit, the seat belt warning will sound.

    Bolt keeps honking at me...

So exactly how are you going to come to terms with your decision to disable the pedestrian warning if you cripple a kid in an accident? Will you become religious while in your prison cell? The risk is simply unjustifiable. And is it really that difficult for you to push the Power button before...

    Bolt keeps honking at me...

Why on earth would you get out of the car while it is running, when it takes one button-push to turn it Off, and costs no time to push the button again when you get back in? The car Should honk at you, to train you not to do foolish things. Get over it - it's not a defect, its a safety feature...

    Selecting a Level-2 Charger

Just do some research on your own time, for pete's sake. There are 50 different versions of J1772 EVSE available, and dozens of reviews on Amazon and elsewhere, and no-one knows what's best for you. They all work, and none is "best" for every need.

    Death to pedestrians!

How about just wiring a resistor in series with the audio output to cut the volume?

EVgo DC chargers were horrible up until the beginning of 2018. They're still not perfect, but improvement is being made.

Correct - not L3, it's an L2 EVSE adapter - Tesla destination charger to J1772.

    Climate control fan noise?

Any comments on the fan noise in the Bolt? In my SparkEV, it's the loudest thing in the car when you are stopped, and noticeable even on the lowest setting. I'm hoping the Bolt will have quieter fan and ductwork - any comments from other music fanatics?

EVgo DC chargers were horrible up until the beginning of 2018. They're still not perfect, but improvement is being made.

By L1, I meant J1772, not the CCS DCFC connector, i.e. the charging rate for the Bolt will be limited to 30a (25mi/hr) by the onboard charger.

EVgo DC chargers were horrible up until the beginning of 2018. They're still not perfect, but improvement is being made.

There was a Kickstarter for an adapter that would allow the Bolt to use Tesla "destination" chargers, which are installed at hotels and restaurants. http://shop.quickchargepower.com/JDapterQuickChargePowercom-Jdapter.htm The hardware for these stations is paid for by Tesla, while the site owner...

Steering wheel controls (not Bolt specific unfortunately)

A lot of people prefer solid, old-fashioned buttons and knobs for the most common functions, like radio and climate control. That's why you get them there as well as on the wheel. Either way, you don't have to take your eyes off the road, assuming that one can learn new things, like where the...

    Fast charge retrofit?

This one is $50. It's about 2" long and 1/4" thick. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018IQ9I2I Similar ones with more buttons are as low as $30. I tacked this one a convenient location in my Spark EV with Blu-Tak. It's been working for 8 months on the original battery, and has better range...

Steering wheel controls (not Bolt specific unfortunately)

Because the radio controls should be near the radio display. Seems like basic ergonomics, just like window controls belonging on the doors near the windows, not on the center tunnel.
