Chevy Bolt EV in the Wild!

    Unknown, not public knowledge yet.

Any chance of an AWD Bolt EV?

Ahh, this thread was resurrected. You're responding to a comment from early 2015. We've learned a lot since then.

'Skateboard' battery increases interior room and trunk space

Thanks for the picture Sean! Now I'm curious to know the purpose of those wires on the right of the picture. I just caught myself actually scratching my head...

'Skateboard' battery increases interior room and trunk space

Personally, I don't care if it has a spare tire or not, but clearly it's designed to be able to store one. Both generations of the Volt have a rear storage compartment but it's square and not sized to store a spare tire. As you say, "space is at a premium" and they wouldn't have designed a...

'Skateboard' battery increases interior room and trunk space

GM designed the unibody to hold one under the trunk floor, so I infer at least some models, in some markets, will have a spare tire. From: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qt4iUjpjeU

'Skateboard' battery increases interior room and trunk space

There's definitely plenty of room below the false floor. It's leaves 9-12" of vertical space when at the high position and level with the rear opening. If you're wondering about the space below the lower "real" floor, the spare tire is down there. They may plan to store the Level 1 EVSE next...

    Rear leg room

If all else fails, look up the specs for rear seat legroom: Volt old, 34.1" Volt new, 34.7" Bolt EV, 36.5"

Tesla Model 3 vs Chevrolet Bolt EV

Try the i3 BEV, LEAF gen 2 (not officially announced), IONIQ Electric, e-Golf or Focus Electric. All of these do or will have range above 100 miles when the Bolt EV is available.

    Interior Space

It's healthy to hold a little doubt about the cargo volume numbers. The "standard" for measuring a hatchback and wagon are different. A wagon's volume goes all the way to the roof, while a hatchback only goes to the height of the back seat, not the rear window or roof. In this case, I think...

Chevy Bolt vs Tesla Model 3, lack of charger network matter?

This is a very logical response from an experienced EV driver. I feel similarly. However, range is a huge deal for those unfamiliar with their needs and have anxiety about EV technology. The Supercharging network is like a 4WD SUV; most buyers may never need its full capability, but people...

    Bolt EV Competitor Spec Comparison

I updated my spreadsheet of BEV spec and performance data. There are lots of additions to the future models, but few specifics. Amongst the changes, I added red text for my speculation on some of the numbers. I also added more performance data where available. Each different available...

186 mile e-Golf goes on sale around same time as Bolt EV

It's my understanding that VW is planning a new e-Golf based on the next gen platform that will do 200+ EPA and be available in 2019. The new information is that the current e-Golf will get a bigger battery boost for 2017 than previously expected. It was going to be capable of about 107-mi EPA...

186 mile e-Golf goes on sale around same time as Bolt EV

Whoa--the 186-mi estimate is NEDC which is overly optimistic. The EPA range will be about 130 miles.

What's with all the Tesla Fans anti-Bolt anger?

I had to reread my post 3 times before I understood your question. My phrasing was poor. The Spark EV did not create my negative opinions of GM. My negative opinions were created by decades following the auto industry as an enthusiast. The Spark EV was compelling enough to me, which...

To further compare - do we know Tesla Model 3 pack size?

An argument can be made that GM is aiming for a different slice of the market than Tesla with the Model 3. I think the wildcard is Nissan and how compelling the LEAF2 will be vis-a-vis the Bolt EV. If Nissan is on their game, it will be that LEAF that motivates GM to revise the Bolt EV. The...

What's with all the Tesla Fans anti-Bolt anger?

People are not "lining up" for the Model 3, they are lining up for the ideas reprented by Tesla and the Model 3. GM will never represent the same ideology. I might get a Bolt EV, but it has to be compelling enough to counter my negative opinions of GM. The Spark EV did that for me. Many...

To further compare - do we know Tesla Model 3 pack size?

I can't imagine a scenario where GM would come out with a new "iteration" within 3 yrs. I could see them adding AWD but little beyond that very soon. Maybe a larger battery option in 2019. Just my speculation.

To further compare - do we know Tesla Model 3 pack size?

No. Tesla has not publically announced the battery energy capacity of the Model 3. That car likely weighs the same as the Bolt EV (my guess is slightly heavier) but it's aerodynamics are significantly better than the Bolt EV. It is likely that it has a 60kWh battery but the other question is...

Do we know for sure the Bolt comes with DC fast charging standard?

GM says Bolt will exceed original 200 mile range estimate

The Model 3 will come with the base battery (likely near 60 kWh) and a larger battery (likely 75-80 kWh). My comments were assuming the smaller "base" battery capacity in the Model 3. So assuming equal usable battery energy in both cars, the Model 3 will have significantly more range at high...
