CCS DC fast charger coverage map

That would be very unrealistic. Please don't. EPA Highway range is 220 mi, but highway travel may be faster than expected during the EPA test. Traveling at 70+ mph (with the flow of traffic), will not allow you to go 220 mi. In addition, no one should plan to use their entire battery. Not...

    A Car Dealers Won’t Sell: It’s Electric

Sure Tesla has a long way to go, both in product quality and service availability, but I never want to go to a service center. Chevrolet dealers are fundamentally motivated to have me come back for service. Tesla and their SCs are motivated to make a product and provide service such that I...

Does the Chevy Bolt EV make the Chevrolet Volt irrelevant? Is that a problem?

So, so rude to the original author. Just provide the link if you feel compelled to turn this forum into a news feed. Don't copy the text without attribution, or preferably just don't copy the text.

    Bolt EV Competitor Spec Comparison

Maybe the next version, which I'll upload after the Bolt EV Order Guide hits the streets.

Tom Moloughney's opinion on the Bolt

What?? no it's not. It's from 18 months ago. No need to reincarnate this thread.

CCS DC fast charger coverage map

Assuming a 200-mi Combined EPA rating, I'd expect a realistic highway range of no more than ~150-160 mi. From that I'd take off 33% for the multitude of unknowns and uncertainties. That leaves a 100 mi planning range at highway speeds with a decent (take the family along) margin. With that...

Wish List -- things I really want to see in the Bolt

So what's worse for a battery over a given period of time: more cycles or storage at a higher state of charge? I suspect the former, that the cycle count matters more.

What the Chevrolet Bolt EV Promises Early Adopters

Exactly, and especially when you copy a caption from said article that implies the words are from GM. See "source: General Motors"

CCS DC fast charger coverage map

Agreed, nice map! I'd prefer 100-mi "as the crow flies" circle radii, but it's great to see all the spots on one map. ssspinball's point is often under appreciated. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing a long trip and having to rely on a single site and plug to continue at the planned pace...

Range, real world use case, etc.

I have calculated that my highway penalty is 14%, based on 7,000 miles of a commute that is mostly (75%) highway. That 14% EXCLUDES the energy used for HVAC or battery conditioning. So a 20-30% knockdown is a good guess.

Range, real world use case, etc.

My limited experience with chargers is that if I can't depend on them being available and functional, then they are virtually useless. More options are not necessarily better than fewer if those options are unreliable. They can lead you to make driving decisions that can leave you stranded, or...

2017 GM Bolt EV commercial showing real headlights

Gary--You always seem to have a finger on the pulse of the EV industry. I had heard most of that, but not the bit about the 40kWh "refreshed" LEAF. Is the rumor that it's the same chassis, just with updated styling and bigger battery and gen 2 will come later 18/19? I had thought the gen2 LEAF...

No noise pollution a huge bonus to EV

I dunno, I've hit more squirrels and rabbits in my EV than any other car I've owned. Going 30 mph down rural roads is hazardous for them. The only explanation I have is the lack of noise.

Range, real world use case, etc.

Chevy dealers currently sell Spark EVs with DCFC and aren't required to have those chargers. Some thing for BMW. Anyone know if Tesla Service Centers have Superchargers for maintenance technician use?

'Skateboard' battery increases interior room and trunk space

Here's a quote from a Bolt EV article in Car & Driver's September 2017 New Cars Issue: "Tavel [Bolt chief engineer] pleaded no comment when asked the purpose of the spare-tire-shaped well at the bottom of the cargo compartment. (In the event of a flat, tire sealant and re-inflation are your...

Range, real world use case, etc.

Because you always want to go to a Chevy dealer?? I would need to be paid to go sit in a Chevy dealer for 30-90 min everytime I need to charge. 200 miles will be sufficient for most people for "local" driving. It isn't alone sufficient for long distance travel, where you need fast charging at...

This is what Tesla Owners said about the Bolt last year!

The Volt (or equivalent) is a step backwards for them in their quest to create sustainable transportation. It's dead end technology.

“Pencils Down” For Tesla Model 3, As Chevrolet Bolt Readies For Production

The last thing I want to do on a routine basis is go to a Chevy dealer. Putting 50kW chargers at dealers is dramatically different than Tesla Superchargers at locations convenient for long distance travel.
