Unfortunately Bolt is still a compliance car from GM

Had the experience of watching a car that wasn't going to to stop in time in the rear view mirror while stopped on the freeway. Ended the car's lifetime, but not by my actions.

CCS chargers now at Bolt EV (Chevrolet) dealerships!!!

Not unless you want to see them. Set your filters for CCS only.

Gee, should I buy now? What do you think, huh?

Bad advice for some people, good advice for others. Bad advice sometimes, good advice other times. Even for the same person. Depends on lots of details. How many miles do you drive a year, and how predictable is that distance? How long are you likely to use the car? What lease deals are...

    Battery Management

Li-ion battery packs are usually top balanced, it is fairly easy. Bottom balance is somewhat rare, and makes the most sense if you often fully discharge the pack. There are also dynamic balancing schemes, that balance cells in the battery pack over the whole range of charge.

    Charging from a 240 VAC 14-50 outlet

First look would be this: https://store.clippercreek.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=14-50 There is also a Juicebox that directly supports a NEMA 14-50.

Trip Report - My First 250 Round Trip Commute to Work

Another opinion. EVgo is more expensive. This means it would be more likely to be available than a free charger. I use free chargers when available, but tend not to rely on them as they are more likely to be in use, and more likely to be broken, at least in my experience. The connect fee is...

Trip Report - My First 250 Round Trip Commute to Work

L2 units are better for the cars, more convenient for you as a hotel guest, and cheaper to install. Also, demand charges will make the electric power more expensive for the hotel.

Trip Report - My First 250 Round Trip Commute to Work

Congratulations. Warning, however. Quiet, responsiveness, pickup and lack of hesitancy can give you a condition known as "EV Grin". You might try stopping at some of the DCQCs on the way home. Stop just long enough to make sure you have the correct access (RFID card, etc), put in a few kWh...

Have a California EV? Be prepared to PAY!

If the wear that trucks cause is so expensive as to rise freight rates to make $40 coffee, then you will pay it one way or the other. Either with $40 coffee, or by paying taxes to fix the roads for the trucks. There is no free lunch, or free roads. Someone has to pay. If it really does $40 in...

Test Drove and Looking For Input and Feedback

Congratulations. I'm hoping for a trip report.

Test Drove and Looking For Input and Feedback

How much would a small electrical shock bother you? How about a large one? Got a problem with fatal shocks to you or your family members? The reason by the NEMA 10-30 is no longer recommended is that people got shocked by their dryers. Usually just a little shock. Sometimes badly. Sometimes...

Test Drove and Looking For Input and Feedback

Errr, I should correct, this is far too pessimistic. Far less than 20 hours, 5.8kW should charge an empty battery to full, balanced battery in about 13 hours.

Test Drove and Looking For Input and Feedback

While I could guess what this outlet was, this image might help to identify better. I suspect that it is a NEMA 10-30, which is obsolete and should not be used. If so: You might convert to NEMA 14-30 or NEMA 6L-30. I'd suggest an electrician, unless you know better and ignore my advice. :-)...

Test Drove and Looking For Input and Feedback

Charging at the mall sounds like a great Plan B. Dual chargers mean somewhat less chance of a down charger. I still suggest a chat with the hotel management about L2 charging stations for hotel guests. That's a better Plan A.

    Bolt too expensive for me

Yes, we sometimes choose to spend more to be green. And sometimes it is break even, and sometimes cheaper to be green. Your case might well be different than mine. All breakeven calculations start with assumptions as to future cost. Those assumptions are almost surely incorrect. Price of...

    Bolt too expensive for me

I used about a gallon of gas a month, and mowing season goes from March to October, sometimes longer. It takes me about 5 or 6 battery charges to mow the lawn. Change oil and filters yearly, spark plugs every 3 or 4 years. I suspect you have a much shorter mowing season, and a much smaller yard.

    Bolt too expensive for me

Breakeven point for an electric lawnmower is about 5 years. No gas, no oil, no plugs, no filters... It is not necessarily paying more.

    Who belongs on this forum?

I really hope several things change: 1) The seat. I'm on the list that can't deal with the two I've sat in so far. Seems to be partly a function of car as well as driver. I'm going to try again. 2) Driver and owner software changes. Battery pack temperatures, current capacity in "rated miles"...
