    Lockable 110v Charging in Public

I don’t know. The same stand has 220v (6.6kw) and that is what I actually used. The 6.6 kw was $1.25 per hour. If you had an ebike or scooter (and many do) then they can use the 110v. However, I saw a plug in Prius using the 110v while all three 220 / 6.6 kw were in use. If you don’t have...

    Is CBEV battery 64 kWh?

The Chevy Bolt pack is CERTAINLY greater than 60 kWh total capacity, since 60 kWh is the usable capacity. When you hit “0%” after driving 240 miles at 4.0 kWh/mi the lights and dash and electronics are still running. The battery isn’t “dead”, it has reached the enginneered safe stopping...

    Extension?

I have purchased a 25 foot 12 gauge. It does not get warm at all, since it is made of the same wire in most homes. I have used the 12 gauge a dozen or more times and sleep well with it plugged in. It’s about 150% more capable than necessary, so there is a good safety margin.

    Lockable 110v Charging in Public

For the first time, I saw a ChargePoint Level 1 charging station. You must use your own EVSE up to 20 amps. It locks your EVSE on your plug (wall) end so no one can steal it or unplug it. The door locks with only a slot for the cable to come out at the bottom. Found this at the UCSF...

    EV Infrastructure after Natural Disaster

While this might charge the EV, it is a dumb move if your goal is to get you further down the road. It won’t. This is the opposite of conservation of energy! However, in most cases, 100 miles (Bolt at half full) is well enough to escape any natural disaster. That doesn’t mean your desired...

    First Road Trip and Impressions

GetOffYourGas- The whole “energy score” thingy is a joke. Meaningless. Pointless. The software in it sucks. It lowers your score the more you hypermile! And apparently 100 degrees F is optimim (of coarse with no air conditioning) according to mine. Miles per kWh is the only score you...

    Dolly towing a Chevy Bolt

Great thread. Thanks for posting. This is ALSO relevant to the case of tow truck towing. If you get disabled for any reason, tow truck drivers will need to know this. Now that I know, should the need arise, I will always request a flat-bed tow truck, if at all possible. And for those...

    Hot Garage

While I concede it is possible to heat/cool while left unplugged and unattended, it is not documented anywhere, and when Chevy is asked the simple, direct question, they are elusive. Chevy has said clearly, and repetatively, "plug in to condition the battery in both hot and cold conditions"...

    Hot Garage

This is INCORRECT. The car MUST be plugged in, OR in the "ready" (on) condition to warm or cool the battery. It's in the user's guide. "Always plug in when cold weather is forecasted." While not specifically spelled out, it's in the my Chevy App. "send me text message reminder to plug in...

    Hot Garage

Maybe you mis-understood. The car has to be either: A) be plugged in for battery conditioning, and this power does not get recorded since it did not come out of the battery B) be turned on, aka "Ready" with the green car icon lit, driving, or not driving, the green icon needs to be on, and...

has anyone found success with TOU (time-of-use) rates at home?

YES!!!. I work in a 24/7/365 manufacturing facility. I work 12 hour shifts. Often 7 pm to 7 am. Sometimes 7 am to 7 pm. Hence I charge at work "overnight" and I go to public chargers at off-peak times when sometimes I can't get to 120 VAC outlets at work because other vehicles or equipment...

has anyone found success with TOU (time-of-use) rates at home?

Not all at all the case. I charge at places with large banks of chargers, areas that I have NEVER seen every EVSE taken. Blue dot is me. For the uninitiated, orange are level 3, green are level 2. Some level 3 are free. Most level 2 are free. One location (Facebook with PUBLIC parking lots...

has anyone found success with TOU (time-of-use) rates at home?

Oilerlord wrote: "Interesting that in one of your prior posts back in July, you mentioned that you "ONLY" use the included 120v EVSE, and were one of the biggest advocates that most people can easily get by on 120v charging at home. " I DO NOT charge at home at any level. I DO charge via 120...

has anyone found success with TOU (time-of-use) rates at home?

I looked into it (Bay area, CA) and TOU does NOT make any sense for me. It would be MORE expensive. In the 7 months I have owned the car, I have found countless public chargings stations, most of them FREE! I have charged at home 1 time, and just for 4 hours. In 7 months! I have paid for...

    Hot Garage

From an enginneering standpoint, cooling while NOT plugged in makes little to no sense. I really, really doubt this would occur. I'm 99.9% sure the car does not cool unless plugged in. Here's why. It could do more harm than good. Besides being a case of trying to lift yourself by your own...

    miles due to regeneration

Charging (regen) and applying propulsion both have conversion losses. Mechanical to chemical to mechanical again. Heat is generated for example. Heat PLUS the frictional losses of the car. Plus added wear and tear is done to the battery, regardless of how slight. Coasting only has the...

100 miles of charge overnight from included charger

If you have two out of phase 120v circuits then you have one 240v circuit and you don't need a power converter box or anything! That box is not needed, unless you want to very infrequently use 240v and most frequently want to use 120v. I have 20 amp 120v circuits available. I'd be happy if...

    miles due to regeneration

There are a few cases per month when I desire zero regen. Coasting on a 4% grade is a good example. I find myself "shifting" to N in these cases. About my only desire (beyond better seats!) would be a disable regen button, much like a disable traction control button. Or this could be...
