What do I do, if I lock my Key Fob in car?

I have always carried a spare (flat) key in my wallet for almost every car I have owned. I have only used a spare 3 times in over 30 years (and two of those were because my wife and my son locked the key in the car). I don't need to do that with the Bolt (and didn't for the Spark) because I can...

    Audible warning

I'm pretty sure a law has already been passed (in the US) although the speed at which it must sound is higher, and it doesn't have to sound like a gasoline engine.

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

I worked in the U.K for awhile, I watch a lot of British TV shows (Graham Norton "Chat" Show is amazingly funny about half the time and amusing most of the other 50%) and I have quite a few Canadian and British (and Australian) friends. Sometimes I call it petrol, other times gas. I also often...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

BMW i3-speak for Range Extender (i.e., the petrol engine that kicks in when the battery runs out)

How common is it to charge 300 miles?

    1) The "extras" (options) on the $35k model 3 are far, far less "luxury" than on the $55k model 2) the battery size (and thus range) on the $35k model is far less ("Standard range", or SR, compared to "medium range" {MR} or "long range" {LR}) 3) Tesla is NOT leasing, they are *selling* every one...

Can I leave my AC on for Dog while shopping?

I have heard (haven't tried it) that if you (1) leave the vehicle in neutral (set the parking brake, of course!) (2) exit thru the *passenger door* instead of the driver door that the car will not turn off. (this was mentioned in the "use your vehicle as emergency power source" thread) Also...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Which is why I have an OBD reader, and torque pro, to show me the kWh capacity of the battery. I used it to reject seveeral SparkEVs on the used market before finally buying my wife the one that I eventually found with low battery degradation. (I really don't care what the mileage is, so long as...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Personally, I plan on buying used - it is generally a much better deal. I bought a used Spark EV for my wife to drive (I originally leased a different one for $89/mo and we both loved it) - it cost me $8500 for a 3-year-old vehicle that originally cost $28k). It is a fantastic "around the area"...

    Dead Car, Dead 12V Battery

Sean I disagree somewhat. I think *everybody* (ICE or EV) should have a Li_Ion "jump starter" in the trunk. In an electric, if you leave it connected you can just drive home and plug in (a 12V trickle charger) - but it allows you to drive home.

    Bricked

I read a *very long* post by a GM-certified tech (probably copy-pasted from the service manual) a while back that described the behavior for keeping the 12V battery charged. Basically, if plugged in to an EVSE, the voltage of the 12V battery is checked fairly often (?12 hours?). If not plugged...

    WiFi Switch in Settings/WiFi

Well, yeah, but a microwave oven is basically a faraday cage (designed to stop electromagnetic signals from escaping) - that's why the 'window' on the door looks like a screen door. Also why if you want privacy, and are anal about it (like me) when you want a totally, completely private...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Oops, I just contributed to the "off topic" posts. If people want to talk about Nav, I'll split the posts out into their own topic. (Although this is a pretty generic thread that has been wrapping new topics about, if in 2 months people want to read about Nav, they aren't going to think to look...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

I have little sympathy for those crying for nav. A little because, I think the car vendors charge way too much, both original price and the 'updates' for maps. A little because I have no problem finding an address, or planning a trip (but then, I don't drive for a living, so someone who does...

Time for a level 2 charger. Suggestions?

Oh, look, an active thread with recent posts about using the standard EVSE on 240V : http://www.mychevybolt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=33738#p33738

    DCQC charging rates

The best thing to do to increase charge rate on cold days is to plug it in (even at only 120V). That will tell the car to heat the battery. Plugging it in 30 or 60 minutes before leaving will tremendously increase the fast charging rate if the temps are below 40. Driving for 15 miles isn't...

Time for a level 2 charger. Suggestions?

If you go to google.com and type : EVSE recommend site:www.mychevybolt.com you will get a list of threads where people have asked for EVSE recommendations over the years, on this site. (there are quite a few) Also, the default OEM EVSE that came with the car is capable of 240V operation. If...

    Bricked

Having a Li-Ion "jump starter" small (size) enough but big (capacity) enough that you can simply connect it to the battery terminals, then *leave it connected* under the hood so that you can drive home and hook your 12V battery up to a charger is ... a very good thing. Also, regularly trickle...

    DCQC charging rates

Well, the Bolt's max current *IS* 150 amps, however the car steps down (pulls less current) long before getting to 400V. I *think* that it steps down (the first time) around 370V, lowering the charge current to around 105A (and thus dropping the 'charge rate' from around 55kW to around 38 kW at...
